Bender Arena of American University is the Eagles home court for Men’s and Women’s basketball and is located in Washington, DC. The venue seats 4,500 and opened in 1988. The arena’s main court is named for the late former American University athletic director and coach Stafford H. “Pop” Cassell, another AU alum. Bender Arena is a great small venue to take in a Division 1 College Basketball game. The crowd was ecstatic earlier today as the American Eagles hosted the Stony Brook Seawolves in a NonConference game. The Eagles led the Seawolves for the majority of the game but the Seawolves used a late rally to eke out a victory by the final score of 77-74. The Eagles were led by Mark Gasperini’s 17 points while the Seawolves Elijah Olaniyi had 21 points.
I would highly recommend visiting Bender Arena if you are ever in Washington, DC and are looking to take in a high quality Division 1 basketball game as Bender Arena is a great venue. Every seat in Bender Arena has you up close to the action on the court and there isn’t a bad seat to be had. I will give Bender Arena 5 out of 5 stars as the small venue was electric and the fans were very passionate and engaged as well. I am looking forward to visiting several arenas in Phoenix, AZ later this month. Until then.
