I visited 27 Division 1 College Basketball Arenas during the 2018-19 College Basketball Season and plan to visit at least 30 Arenas each season.  At my current pace I will have visited all 353 Division 1 Arenas by the end of the 2029-30 College Basketball Season.  I currently have 10 trips planned for next season including visits to Atlanta, Arizona, Pittsburgh, New York City, and Providence.  I will rank the Arenas I saw in 5 categories – Most Modern Arena, Best Court Design, Best 6th Man, Best Tradition, and Best Atmosphere.

The Arena that had the Best Tradition of the 27 I visited this past season was West Virginia’s WVU Coliseum.  The Tradition of playing “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver is played after every home victory.  Fans are encouraged to stay in the stands and sing along with the team.  John Denver christened the Football Stadium when he performed Country Roads during the pre-game festivities before the Mountaineers faced Cincinnati in the 1980 season opener.  Another little known fact is at midnight at every drinking establishment in Morgantown, some version of the John Denver classic will be played over the speakers.  It was a down season for the Mountaineers in 2018-19 but I am sure Bob Huggins will have his troops ready for the 2019-20 season and that they will make a return to the NCAA Tournament.

Be on the lookout for my College Sports Radio Show that will launch in the next several months along with a daily/weekly blog on College Basketball, College Lacrosse, and College Football. Please follow me on Twitter as well – @SteveHiegel – Thanks.
