I visited 27 Division 1 College Basketball Arenas during the 2018-19 College Basketball Season and plan to visit at least 30 Arenas each season. At my current pace I will have visited all 353 Division 1 Arenas by the end of the 2029-30 College Basketball Season. I currently have 10 trips planned for next season including visits to Atlanta, Arizona, Pittsburgh, New York City, and Providence. I will rank the Arenas I saw in 5 categories – Most Modern Arena, Best Court Design, Best 6th Man, Best Tradition, and Best Atmosphere.
The Arena that had the Best Atmosphere of the 27 I visited this past season was Georgetown’s Capital One Arena. The Arena that also plays host to the Washington Capitals of the NHL and the Washington Wizards of the NBA was electric this past March when I saw the Hoyas host the Seton Hall Pirates in a late season Big East game. The Hoyas prevailed in double overtime and the crowd was ecstatic throughout the last 10 minutes of the game and through both overtimes. The Hoyas are back as Patrick Ewing is starting to bring in some top recruits to go along with several key holdover players from the John Thompson III era. Next year should be even more exciting in DC as the Hoyas bring back several key contributors and have a few solid recruits coming in to the fold. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Hoyas make a return to the NCAA Tournament next season as they are a program on the rise.
