As a youngster, Robert Schiffman was enthralled watching Providence College basketball transition into a major player among east coast basketball programs and later on the national stage. From sneaking into games at Alumni Hall as an adolescent, to becoming a season ticket holder at the larger Providence Civic Center (during the Rick Pitino era), the Friars will always be one of his basketball favorites.
After a career move to Michigan in the late 80’s, Robert adopted the Michigan State Spartans as basketball sweetheart #1. As a Spartan season ticket holder and proud member of the Rebounders Club at MSU, he was able to view firsthand the program’s rise to elite status under Hall of Fame coach,Tom Izzo.
This relationship with the MSU program has had many highs which includes several Final Fours and a national championship in 2000.
Living in Maryland since 2004, Robert still follows the Spartans and attends games whenever they are playing on the East Coast. He plans to travel to San Antonio for the 2018 Final Four.
Following careers in newspaper production operations, and facilities management, Robert currently holds the position as Executive Director of Mid Atlantic Green Building Alliance. He has two adult daughters living in the NYC area, and three grandchildren. Of course, all are MSU Spartan fans.
We look forward to Robert’s occasional commentary on Big Ten basketball.
